And now some reflection on BCC pricing:
While shipping from Austin, Texas will actually save us a bit of expense owing to UPS, USPS and other hubs being in the immediate vicinity of the shop, I’m sure you’re all aware that shipping costs have risen dramatically in the past several years. There is nothing BCC ships that isn’t dense, big, or both, so we’ve been feeling the squeeze for a while, but have frankly been a bit too caught up with getting our production squared away that we’ve (I’ve) been a little neglectful of the BCC balance sheet. We’ll be having a close look at shipping in early 2025, but suffice it to say for now that we’ll likely have to start charging at least something for it. As always, I’ll work at keeping it real and reasonable - I’m here to sell you copper cookware, not marked-up shipping.
Lately our material costs have come down a little from a peak in mid-2023, but are still on average about 28% higher than when I last changed our prices in Spring 2021. All users of pure metal are also subject to much higher purchase minimums from rolling mills, which means we may have to finance metal purchases going forward to make sure we have raw materials with which to stay inventoried, and those interest charges will show up on the balance sheet too.
This of course means BCC prices will be rising to meet such challenges. This month’s selling window will, however, be run with our 2021 pricing, and I will be calculating our forthcoming “scratch & ding” sale prices off of the outgoing 2021 price list. Basically, we’re selling anything we made in 2024 at the old prices.
The S&D, by the way, will be coming up in early 2025; we’re still working on making every piece’s imperfections as close to perfect as we can.
In sum, the October 25, 2024 selling window is your chance to collect the BCC you want (or want to give) at 2021 prices. I have not settled yet on 2025 pricing and a new shipping policy, but the balance sheet beckons and striking a healthy financial balance is one of the more important ways I’m working on making BCC more reliably available.
Thank you once again for your abiding faith and support!
